Good afternoon residents of Little Hulton, Walkden and Worsley On Wednesday 22nd October the Little Hulton neighbourhood policing team will be holding a knife amnesty event at the Ellesmere Shopping Centre in Walkden. This event will run from 5pm - 6pm This is a chance for anyone to dispose of any unwanted bladed articles safely and totally anonymously, no details will be taken off anyone handing items to us. If you are transporting any bladed article to us please follow these handy tips - 1) Make sure the blade is in a secure closed container We are holding this event not only to get bladed articles of the streets and falling into the wrong hands but also to raise awareness that knife crime is a national issue and we must all play our part in trying to make the streets of Little Hulton and Walkden safe for all. Carrying a knife for your own protection is illegal and can actually put you in more danger, research shows that you are more likely to get injured from a knife that you are carrying. It also increases the risk of people around you being injured which will cause great distress and upset to your family and friends. You could get sent to prison for up to 4 years for just having a knife in your possession. Having a criminal record will have huge effect on your travel and future career. If you have concerns that a member of your family or friend is carrying a knife then help is at hand. You can report information anonymously using Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or using their online service or Fearless which is aimed at young people and gives a lot of advice and information.
